Norway's public sector is comprised of three levels: the national government, the municipalities, and between them, the county councils.
Our responsibilities
Møre og Romsdal county authority is responsible for developing the region in several ways. We provide upper secondary education, dental health services and public transportation. We are also in charge of the majority of the public roads, a variety of cultural activities, environmental issues and to facilitate economic growth and development.
The political leadership
The County Council is the highest political authority. It makes decisions on every important and fundamental matter involving the work of the County Council. The County Council appoints a County Mayor. Currently, the County Mayor is Anders Riise (the Conservative Party).
The County Executive Board is the County Council’s executive committee, but it also has the authority to make final decisions on a range of issues. There are also three standing committees (hovedutvalg), each of which is responsible for their specialist area:

- Standing Committee on Education, skills and business
- Standing Committee on Culture and Public Healt
Administration
Møre og Romsdal County Council has three administrative centres: Kristiansund, Molde and Ålesund. The administrative section is headed by County Chief Executive Toril Hovdenak and is split into these departments:

- Strategy and Governance
- Organizational and Service Development
- Legal and Administrative Services

International collaboration
International collaboration is important for the development of the county. Our aim is to make Møre og Romsdal an attractive and innovative county and to give young people international skills and experience.
We are part of Erasmus+, which is the biggest education programme in the world. It provides opportunities for internships, work placements, courses and participation in collaboration projects across Europe.
Møre og Romsdal County Council is a member of sveral international organisations.
