Fear of Dental Treatment - TADA
Møre og Romsdal County Municipality offers a tailored dental health service for individuals who have been subjected to torture (T), abuse (A), or have severe dental treatment anxiety or odontophobia (DA). This service is called TADA treatment.
With the help of anxiety treatment, the goal is for you to manage regular dental treatment.
Individuals from the age of 20 who either:
- have been subjected to torture
- have been subjected to abuse or violence in close relationships
- have severe anxiety about dental treatment, odontophobia
- have severe anxiety about blood, injury, and injections (blood/injury/injection phobia).
You must have significant difficulties receiving dental treatment and be motivated to work on these difficulties through training sessions with a psychologist and dental health personnel.
Conversation and Exposure Therapy
You will receive help from a multidisciplinary TADA treatment team consisting of a psychologist, dentist, and dental health secretary. The treatment offer is cognitive behavioural therapy aimed at dental treatment anxiety for up to 12 hours.
It is important to attend scheduled training sessions with the TOO team if you are offered follow-up treatment. Two missed sessions will generally result in the termination of follow-up treatment.
Your needs will be assessed in a conversation with a psychologist so that we can create a treatment plan tailored to you.
Further follow-up is based on principles from exposure therapy, which has a good effect on the treatment of phobias.
The anxiety treatment itself consists of gradually practicing the situations you find most difficult.
You will have the opportunity to learn strategies to manage difficult situations.
The multidisciplinary TADA team in Møre og Romsdal County Municipality is located at Molde Competence Clinic (TOO- Molde Kompetanseklinikk).
Tailored Dental Treatment
When you are finished with the TADA Multidisciplinary Treatment Team, you will be transferred to a TADA Dental Treatment Team located in your region of residence. This team will carry out dental treatment according to your needs. If you consent, this dental team has received the necessary information so that the dental treatment is adapted to your level of mastery.
After you have completed the treatment, you are responsible for following up on dental health with a dentist or dental hygienist.
On the website tooinfo.no, you can find information about the treatment.
Waiting time
There is a long waiting time for the assessment conversation. As of today, the waiting time is up to 2 years.
